Exoskeletons at construction sites: Auxsys in the ReHopE project

The ReHopE research project (Reducing physical strain in manual trades through optimized exoskeletons) is investigating how exoskeletons can be used in manual labor to reduce physical strain. Auxsys is part of the project consortium as a technology partner and is providing the exoskeleton systems for this purpose.


The aim of the project is to identify potential scenarios for the use of exoskeletons in manual labor and to analyze the operational, ergonomic, and organizational frameworks. Particular focus is placed on activities such as material transport and awkward postures in unstructured working environments.


The exoskeletons used are being tested in laboratory conditions and in the field (on the project partners' construction sites) as part of the project. In addition, movement data is being evaluated to classify physical strain and body postures. The aim here is to use sensor-based data analysis to identify harmful movement patterns and avoid them in the long term.


In addition, psychosocial factors such as wearing comfort, subjective stress perception, and acceptance are systematically assessed in order to identify the conditions necessary for the successful integration of exoskeletons into everyday work life. To complement this, a digital planning tool is being developed to support companies in their resource planning and selection of suitable exoskeletons.


Participation in the ReHopE project is part of the overall strategy to make our existing exoskeleton technology available for a wide range of applications. The environmental conditions and tasks in manual labor are considered particularly challenging due to the high diversity of tasks and movements.
